Life on the street poses unique challenges for pet owners. Drawing on research conducted among homeless pet owners in five U.S. cities, this presentation discusses three lessons learned about the depth and complexity of the commitment people experiencing homelessness make to their animals.

Lesley Irvine


Dr. Leslie Irvine is a professor of sociology and director of the Animals and Society Certificate Program at the University of Colorado-Boulder. She is the author of several books including My Dog Always Eats First which examines homeless people’s relationships with their companion animals.
