Position Summary:  The Foster Care Coordinator works to create an interconnected network that identifies, grows and trains foster care families at Cat Care Society.  Foster program administrative responsibilities include the recruitment and orientation of incoming foster families, scheduling of continued education training and promotion of foster care animals in need. The Foster Care Coordinator works to place animals into foster homes and supports CCS foster families in caring for their foster animals. The Foster Care Program Manager works to ensure that foster families are safe, engaged, well-trained and have positive and fulfilling foster experiences.

Salary: Starting at $20/hr

Role Responsibilities: 

  • The Foster Coordinator will oversee and implement contemporary, best practice foster programming that works in cooperation and alignment with overall shelter goals.
  • The foster program must respond to the real time needs of the shelter as they change, including day-to-day management of on-site populations
  • Develop, implement & continuously assess/improve the foster care program. Assist in the development and updating of SOPs.
  • Works closely with Volunteer Manager to conduct training, move program innovations forward, and recruit volunteers.
  • Work collaboratively with other department managers to ensure strategic, efficient overall shelter operations that save the most lives
  • Reports to Shelter Manager about consistent or serious issues with foster programs, foster volunteers, or staff involved with foster programs, and work to devise solutions to these issues.
  • Conduct monthly onboarding training for new foster volunteers.
  • Ensures that contact with  foster homes is engaging, timely and respectful communication.
  • Regular communication with veterinary staff to facilitate the special needs of individual animals selected for potential foster care.
  • Recruit, train, support, and supervise foster volunteers to provide care in their homes. Conduct annual home visits in accordance with PACFA regulations.
  • Coordinate foster involvement in adoption and/or special events (at shelter & offsite).
    Regular engagement in learning and applying foster program best practices.

Qualifications: 

  • Must be able to work in a high volume, fast paced, high stress environment.
  • Self-motivated, great attitude, team-oriented a must.
  • Demonstrated experience in program implementation and management, as well as providing customer service and/or case management.
  • Proven organizational skills and attention to detail (effective record keeping ability).
  • Ability to use judgment when dealing with confidential information.
  • Able to self-manage and make decisions that are in the best interest of an animal and our organization
  • Knowledge of animal welfare and best practices.
  • Experience using ShelterLUV is a plus
  • Foster experience is a plus

Education & Experience:

  • High School or equivalent
  • Minimum of two years in a supervisory, customer services, or leadership role
  • Experience working in an animal shelter or rescue organization is strongly desired, including a basic knowledge of animal health, zoonotic diseases, animal handling, and animal behaviors.

Working Conditions

Potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, high noise levels, extreme temperatures, hazardous chemicals, and sharp objects. Able to lift up to 50 lb., long periods of standing, bending, stooping, reaching, animal handling, and restraint in an animal shelter-type setting. Exposure to animals of all sizes and temperament

Schedule:  5 days a week (includes a weekend day), 8 hours per day. May be flexible depending on departmental needs.
