Animal Control Officer

The City of Montrose seeks a motivated and friendly individual to join our Animal Control Team! This position will under general direction uphold Animal Control regulations for the City of Montrose and assist at the Montrose Animal Shelter daily as needed.

The Wage: The wage for this full-time position is $39,952.76 annually.

Essential Functions:

Respond to, investigate, and resolve citizen and neighborhood disputes and complaints of Animal Control issues in the City of Montrose and determine appropriate course of action.
Impound stray, vicious, nuisance and abandoned animals. Dispose of all deceased animals from roadways.
Issue summons and complaints or penalty assessments to suspected offenders and prepare documentation for first appearances in court including appropriate sentencing recommendations.
Assist at the Montrose Animal Shelter daily and as needed. Assist with various shelter sponsored clinics and activities such as vaccination, licensing and spay/neuter clinics as well as tours and presentations.

Job Requirements and Qualifications:

Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds frequently, over 75 pounds occasionally.
Must be able to participate in and successfully complete yearly physical fitness testing sponsored by the police department and/or the animal control department.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Animal Control Officers must successfully complete the mandatory twelve week field training program with the Field Training Officer.
Certified Animal Control Officer from the Colorado Association of Animal Control Officers, or the ability to obtain within one year of hire date.
Must become certified in ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 within one year of hire date.
Current Colorado driver’s license with acceptable record.
