We’re seeking a Chief Veterinarian who excels at shelter medicine, embraces open admission and Socially Conscious Sheltering philosophies, and is ready to use their experience and creativity to help our growing Organization reach new levels! This is a new senior leadership position reporting to the Director of Operations. Provides leadership and direction for the veterinary services departments, programs and associated staff including the veterinary clinics, shelter medicine and community-based programs, and foster and transfer programs. Oversees 15+ department employees and directly manages 5+ staff members including both Supervising and Shelter Veterinarians. Interacts closely and collaborates with the Associate Directors of Operations and Animal Control. Serves as the Organization’s medical authority and manages the health of the animal population, the surgical program and disease control protocols. Oversees the coordination of all controlled substance processes ensuring appropriate compliance with all mandates. The position does include surgical responsibilities. Must be currently licensed in the State of Colorado to practice (or obtain State license soon after hiring) and maintain certification. Minimum three (3) years of experience as an animal shelter veterinarian with substantial responsibilities for population level issues required. Two (2) years of staff supervision required. High quality/high volume surgical sterilization experience required as is dental surgery experience. Must be qualified and eligible to obtain and retain DEA license. Professional Liability Insurance required. Veterinary experience with exotics and barnyard animals a plus. Big picture view of animal welfare, herd health and shelter medicine. Strong presentation, communication, project management, emotional intelligence, work ethic and integrity skills required. Bilingual English/Spanish reading, writing, understanding and speaking a plus and includes a wage premium. Schedule is generally 5 days a week includes on-call (phone) duties as needed. Expected hiring range is $150k to $170k commensurate with experience and education. Relocation assistance available. Closes October 31st, 2024, or when filled.
