Position: Veterinary Assistant (Part-time, 20 hours per week)

Department: Clinic

Classification: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $18-$20 per hour

POSITION SUMMARY.

Assists veterinarians in providing medical care and treatment for animals, and exceptional customer service to patrons. This position works directly with both shelter animals and community members and their pets to provide high quality, affordable veterinary care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Regularly clean the veterinary facility, ensuring that it remains in a sanitary and attractive condition.

*Clean and sterilize the animal enclosures to prevent the spread of communicable diseases and provide a pleasant living environment for the clinic’s patients.

*Clean and maintain the veterinary equipment in a sterile condition.

*Provide client care by scheduling appointments, taking payments, and checking-in clients.

*Maintain excellent client communication.

*Record all pertinent medical, client and case related information in the patient record accurately       with appropriate grammar, terms, and accurate information.

*Review medical records, estimates or discharge instructions with clients.

*Assist in taking blood, urine, and other samples to provide to the veterinarian for testing.

*Assist the veterinarian perform some tests, such as x-rays.

*Assist the veterinarian with animal handling.

*Administer any medications that the veterinarian has prescribed.

*Answer the phones in a courteous and informative way.

*Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· High School Diploma.

· Computer proficiency with a solid working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

· General knowledge of zoonotic diseases and infectious disease control.

· General knowledge of medical terminology.

· Ability to work under pressure and stressful situations while handling multiple tasks.

· Self-motivated to achieve results and maintain high standards.

· Must be reliable, organized, and adaptable to changes within the Clinic and RCHS.

· Knowledge of animal behavior and demonstrate appropriate animal handling skills.

· Ability to maintain high standard of patient care.

Ability to work independently and effectively with other managers and staff members in order to accomplish daily tasks as well as strategic plans.
Excellent written and verbal skills.
Ability to demonstrate patience and composure in stressful situations, and ability to handle a fast-paced environment.
A valid driver’s license and ability to gain coverage through our motor vehicle insurance is required

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and taste or smell.

BENEFITS:  This is a non-exempt position with a range of $18-$20 dollars per hour depending on qualifications.
