Colorado Animal Welfare Conference Session
Legal Considerations for Animal Management Officers
10:30am–noon • August 18, 2026
Lakewood Ballroom
Field Services
This session discusses when you may legally enter property and seize an animal and when a warrant is requred. Under the Fourth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, citizens are protected from unreasonable searches and seizures by the government. Because animals are legally considered property, removing them or entering private property to investigate can trigger constitutional protections. This training will outline your responsibilities under the Fourth Amendment and other applicable legal requirements to ensure you are lawfully performing your duties.
