Purpose of Position:
The Philanthropy Officer will work with the Manager of Philanthropy and Planned Giving to develop and implement a strategy targeting individuals capable of making significant annual contributions of $10,000 or more to support the mission of Humane Colorado. The Philanthropy Officer develops long-term relationships built on a firm understanding of donors’ interests, passions, and values. The Philanthropy officer will maintain a portfolio of major donors capable of five and six figure gifts and will be responsible for achieving key metrics. The Philanthropy Officer is responsible for identification of prospective donors as well as qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and creative stewardship of a portfolio of existing donors.
Responsibilities
- Secure major gifts ($10,000+) by building relationships with both new and existing donors.
- Develop personalized strategies to meet annual fundraising targets and surpass revenue goals.
- Cultivate, qualify, and solicit prospective and current donors, with the ultimate goal of upgrading them to major gift prospects. Increase donor engagement and retention through strategic stewardship.
- Maintain and actively manage a portfolio of individual donors and prospects, raising at least $750,000 annually. Use a donor database to track interactions, progress, and performance effectively.
- Develop meaningful engagement opportunities, including one-on-one meetings, events, and communications, to deepen relationships between donors and Humane Colorado.
- Create and implement moves management plans tailored to each donor’s interests, motivations, and giving patterns to maximize their support.
- Write compelling proposals and stewardship reports that reflect the impact of donor contributions, ensuring that gifts are used in accordance with donor intentions.
- Conduct thorough research to identify high-potential donors and assess their giving capacity.
- Build a pipeline of prospective major donors.
- Generate timely reports on portfolio activity, donor progress, and fundraising results to inform decision-making and ensure accountability.

Compensation: Starting at $73,000.00 – $81,000.00 annually (starting pay commensurate with market, experience, and equity)
Work Conditions and Physical Requirements
Performs work primarily in an office setting. Potentially prolonged periods of sitting and repetitive motion. May work in an area with high noise level. Potentially subject to animal bites and scratches. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, fumes, dust, animal dander, and feces. Occasional lifting with reasonable accommodation.

Required
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in non-profit management, communication, sales or related field, or equivalent experience
- Work Experience: Three years of sales or fundraising experience
